This study aims to investigate the psychological status of doctors and nurses in emergency departments, Self?rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Self?rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) were employed to assess the anxiety and depression among doctors and nurses in emergency departments of Third?Grade?Class?A hospitals in Nanjing. Results showed that the average SAS and SDS scores of doctors and nurses in emergency departments are significantly higher than those of normal populations in China. Among all the possible factors , pressure of promotion is an important factor that contributes to anxiety and depression. Therefore, the psychological health of doctors and nurses in emergency departments is not optimistic which should be paid more attention to and effective strategies should be taken to reduce the pressure of promotion for improving the psychological health of doctors and nurses in emergency departments.
