Objective:To study the distribution patterns of PGP9.5 and NPY immunoreactive(IR) peptidergic nerves in adult human testes. Methods:Four testes from adult males were processed for 5 -滋m thick frozen sections. Antibodies against protein gene product(PGP) 9.5 and neuropeptide Y(NPY) were used for immunohistochemical detection of peptidergic nerves in the human testes. Results:PGP9.5-IR fibers were mainly distributed in the testicular interstitium,in close association with seminiferous tubules and Leydig cell nests. The majority of the NPY-IR nerves were observed around intratesticular blood vessels, but the walls of the seminiferous tubules were also innervated. The density of PGP9.5 immunoreactive nerve was stronger than that of NPY. Conclusion:The presence of peptidergic nerves in the human testes provides anatomic evidence for involvement of the spermatic nerves in spermatogenesis regulation.
