Objective:To investigate the expression and correlation of ERK1/2 and Survivin in esophageal cancer. Methods:The expression of ERK1/2 and Survivin on 40 esophageal cancer tissues and 20 normal esophageal tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. The protein expression of ERK1/2 and Survivin and the consequent changes by PD98059 were detected by Western blot analysis. The correlation of ERK1/2 and Survivin in Eca109 cells was detected by co-immunoprecipitation analysis. Results: Among 40 esophageal cancer tissues, the positive immunolabelling rate of ERK1/2 and Survivin was 87.5% and 90.0% respectively, while among normal esophageal tissues the positive rate was 40.0% and 5.0%. The protein expression levels of ERK1/2 and Survivin in esophageal cancer tissues were higher than those in paraneoplastic tissues. There was coexpression of ERK1/2 and Survivin proteins. PD98059 down-regulated the expression of Survivin in Eca109 cells. Conclusion:The expression of ERK1/2 and Survivin is remarkably up-regulated in esophageal cancer tissues than in paraneoplastic tissues. There is positive correlation between the expression of ERK1/2 and Survivin in Eca109 cells. Inhibition of ERK1/2 by PD98059 induces down-regulation expression of Survivin. The expression of Survivin on esophageal cancers may depend on ERK1/2 expression.
