Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effect of treatment of the elder patients suffering from cervical spinal stenosis. Methods:Thirty-five elder patients (65~79 years old) with cervical spinal stenosis were accepted with different surgeries including the anterior resection the posterior longitudinal ligament combining plate fixation with bone graft or the posterior laminectomy combining lateral mass screw fixation with bone graft from October 2004 to October 2008. The spinal function recovery and improvement rates were analyzed by Japanese Orthopedic Association(JOA) score system. Results:All patients were followed up 7 to 30 months (average 18.4 months). JOA score was 5 to 11 points (average 7.8 points) before operation. JOA score was 9 to 16 points (average 14.2 points) after operation. The clinical effect of operation was excellent. Bone graft integration was observed in all cases. Conclusion:For elder patients suffering from the cervical spinal stenosis,it is possible to get reliable result using appropriate method, complete decompression, firm fixation and effective fusion.
