Abstract:Objective:To understand the situation of Ice(metamfetamine) abuse in Jiangsu province in 2008. Methods:An investigation and analysis were conducted among 1 029 Ice abusers who were under treatment in Jiangsu detoxification settings or captured by drug control units in 2008 with the Drug Abuse Monitor Survey Questionnaire designed by National Surveillance Center of Drug Abuse. Results:Among the 1 029 Ice abusers,male accounted for 82.70%,while female 17.30%. The average age was 29.73±7.32 with male 30.81±7.10 and female 24.55±6.03. Among those aged under 25 years,male accounted for 25.14%,while female 65.73%. It showed significant difference(P < 0.01) compared male with female in the group aged under 25. For the education level,79.01% of the abusers had middle or senior education. 52.58% was single. 72.79% had no job. 1.76% was female while 16.85% male among the poulation worked in creation sites,which also showed significant difference(P < 0.01). The main reason for abusing Ice was satisfying curiosity(64.92%). Peers(65.60%) and creation sites(30.81%) were the main sources for them to get Ice. Temporary living places,hotels,rented houses(51.41%) were the main places Ice abuse took place. The average money spent per month by 52.28% abusers was 2 000~8 000 RMB. 64.33% abusers were single users with 85.23% chasing dragon. Conclusion:Ice abusers have obvious social demographic and behavioral characteristics in Jiangsu province. The results suggest that drug abuse education and prevention should be strengthened on young people especially women,and administration for temporary living places,hotels and rented houses,creation sites also should be enhanced.
