Objective:To examine the prevalence of Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma genitalium in male HIV/AIDS patients in Jiangsu Province,in order to provide evidence for future researches on the role of these two mycoplasmas in AIDS. Methods:The organisms were detected from first-void urine specimens in males. Ureaplasma urealyticum was detected by culture method,whereas nested-PCR was used to detect Mycoplasma genitalium. Results:The prevalences of Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma genitalium in male HIV/AIDS patients in Jiangsu Province were 51.71% and 28.97%,respectively;the rates of different areas were various. The association of Mycoplasma genitalium infection with the CD4+ cell counts in HIV/AIDS patients was significant. Conclusion:The prevalences of Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma genitalium in male HIV/AIDS patients in Jiangsu Province were both high,and Mycoplasma genitalium infection may connect with people’s immune status.
