Objective:To study the changes of serum levels of interleukin-6(IL-6) and C-reactive protein(CRP) in patients with gastric carcinoma and the relationship of the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and CD31 with the serum level of IL-6. Methods:IL-6 was evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent test(ELISA). CRP was detected by Beckman albumen measuring system. The expression of VEGF and CD31 in gastric carcinoma tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry. Results:The serum level of IL-6 in patients with gastric carcinoma was significantly higher than controls(P < 0.001) and concerned with staging. After operation, the serum level of IL-6 decreased significantly(P < 0.001). The percentage of VEGF positive cells and the microvessel density(MVD) labeled by CD31 antibody gradually increased with the staging. They were all positively correlated with the serum level of IL-6. Conclusion:The detection of serum IL-6-VEGF and CD31 in gastric carcinoma patients is useful to early diagnosis, therapy and to anticipate the condition and prognosis.
