    Abstract:

In this article the authors mainly discussed the relationship between genre and experiential organization. The analysis was carried out from three perspectives: i) distribution of transitivity processes in different moves of medical research article abstracts; ii) distribution of voice in different moves of medical research article abstracts; iii) interrelations between distribution of transitivity processes and distribution of voice. Through analysis of 50 English structured abstracts selected from 10 SCI medical journals, it was found that there was a close relationship between the communicative purposes of genre and the choice of transitivity and voice. To some extent, the choice of transitivity conditioned the choice of voice. The forms of language represent language functions, meanwhile the functions of language condition the language forms.
