Genetic counseling has the characteristics of professionalism，precision，ethics and the rule of law. The legal risks of genetic counseling include unqualified genetic counselors，disclosure of personal genetic information，endangering biosafety，genetic discrimination，violation of patients’rights to informed consent and family members’rights to lives and health. The article suggests refining genetic counseling in China，including improving the qualification certification of genetic counselors，the regulations on the protection of personal genetic information，the regulations on avoiding biosafety risks，the regulations against gene discrimination，the regulation of the right to informed consent and right to life and right to health.
