Narrative medicine has emerged as one of the most prominent research focuses within the field of medical humanities in China，currently transitioning from a research area to a disciplinary field. Strictly speaking，narrative medicine does not fully align with traditional disciplinary standards，yet it embodies characteristics of modern disciplinary development，with humanistic，clinical，and narrative attributes as its core disciplinary features. To accelerate the disciplinary shift of narrative medicine research and establish a narrative medicine discipline system with Chinese characteristics，the following strategies should be adopted. First，it is vital to clarify disciplinary attributes，promote knowledge production through scientific research，and construct a systematic knowledge framework. Secondly， it is important to enhance external institutional frameworks to foster disciplinary communities and standardize external criteria. Lastly，it is essential to seek policy support to enhance the legitimacy of the discipline，thereby accelerating disciplinary development and completing the transition from a research area to a fully established disciplinary field.
