Abstract:Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate differences and relationship of rumination, personality trait and depression.Methods:447 college students were randomly selected and tested by ruminant reaction Scale (RRS), Big Five Personality Inventory (NEO-FFI) and the Beck Depression self-assessment questionnaire respectively. Results: there was significant gender difference on neuroticism; three dimensions of rumination and neuroticism had positive correlation with depression; extroversion, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness had significantly negative correlation with depression. Conclusion: regression analysis showed pathological rumination and neuroticism can positively predict onset of depression; extroversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness can negatively predict onset of depression
