Abstract:Objectives: To explore effective methods for improving dental students’ clinical competence during the Operative Dentistry and Endodontics laboratory course. Methods: In addition to traditional phantom head laboratory practices, a case-based learning (CBL) method, a 3D virtual dental training and networking(SPOC) were combined to Multi-element teaching group. Theoretical examinations and anonymous questionnaire were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the pre-internship training. Results: In the case analysis and the operations examinations, students in Multi-element teaching group obtained higher scores than students in Traditional teaching group (P<0.05). Students in Multi-element teaching group were rated higher scores on improving their ability to diagnose diseases and perform clinical operations, adapting to the internship, and showing increased enthusiasm in the internship (P<0.05). Conclusions: The combined application of CBL, 3D virtual dental training and networking can improve students’ clinical competence during their internship.
