Abstract:Objective: To develop College English school-based extension curriculum so as to serve specific needs of the medical universities and students. Methods: Based on Constructivism, Multiple Intelligence theory, and needs analysis, we developed a framework for the English extension curriculum for Nanjing Medical University, and used tests, questionnaires and interviews to examine the effects of one-year teaching practice. Results: The school-based English extension curriculum developed the students’ English comprehensive skills, autonomous learning ability, and interest and self-confidence in learning English. Most teachers and students were satisfied with the curriculum.Conclusions: Although the school-based English extension curriculum meets the specific needs of the school and the most students, its structure needs to be optimized.
