Specialty construction is the lifeline and, more importantly, the foundation of the sustainable development of independent colleges. At present, there are some problems of specialty setting in independent medical colleges, such as the high degree of specialty convergence with their parent universities, and the specialty convergence within independent medical colleges themselves. In order to establish local-featured specialties, independent medical colleges should seek combination with local demand from the following six aspects: deepening the specialty construction reform, highlighting the brand advantage, strengthening local features, promoting faculty construction, establishing local-featured specialty construction via collage-hospital-enterprise cooperation, and applying local-featured specialties.
