Abstract:To investigate the psychological status of doctors and nurses working in emergency departments, Self-rating Anxiety Scale and Self-rating Depression Scale were employed to assess anxiety and depression among doctors and nurses working in emergency departments of Third-Grade-Class-A hospitals in Nanjing. Results show that the average SAS and SDS scores of doctors and nurses working in emergency departments are significantly higher than those of normal populations in China. Among all the possible factors that were investigated, pressure of promotion is an important factor that contribute to anxiety and depression. Conclusively, the psychological health of doctors and nurses working in emergency departments is not satisfying. Therefore, emphasis should be laid on this phenomenon and effective strategies that can reduce the pressure of promotion, should be taken to improve psychological health of doctors and nurses working in emergency departments.
