Abstract:【Abstract】Objective: To construct a theory of catastrophic belief and to compile a catastrophe belief scale. Method: The concept of catastrophic belief was determined through literature analysis and semi-structured interviews and the entries and structures of the scales were obtained. Use project analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis to examine the scale and conduct a reliability and validity test. Results: The catastrophic belief scale consists of 19 items, which are composed of four factors: self-evaluation, physical safety, evaluation from others, and property security. The confirmatory factor analysis indicators were:χ2/df=2.238、CFI=0.925、NFI=0.874、GFI=0.894、TLI=0.904、IFI=0.926、RMSEA=0.071, and the internal consistency reliability of the scale was 0.766~0.898, The split-half reliability is 0.893, and the test-retest reliability after three weeks is 0.870. Conclusion: The Catastrophic Belief Scale has good psychometric characteristics and can be used as a tool for mental health assessment and prediction.
