In the second half of the 19th century, The missionaries came to China to promote the emergence and development of nursing.With the development of nursing in China, the name of nursing practitioners was changing, among which the words Kanhu and Hushi in Chinese are more common. From the research perspective of transform of Kanhu and Hushi, it is aim to analyze the transform in the use of Chinese names for nurses and the source of nurses, so as to consider the development of modern nursing and the changes of modern society in China. The transform of Kanhu and Hushi is not only a change in the names of nursing practitioners, but also a manifestation of gradual development in nursing under the influence of different medical models in modern society. Affected by changes in the social environment, the development of nursing was gradually standardize and professionalize under the leadership of the government. The internal choices of nursing and the external thrust of social development was driving changes of nursing. The nursing had also been further recognized and accepted in society.
