Abstract:Using data from the 2018 China Family Panel Studies to study 3712 elderly people aged 60 and above who have children and live together without any children. Logistic regression was used to analyze the impact of two-way intergenerational support on the utilization of medical services for empty nesters, and Quantile regression was used to analyze the impact of two-way intergenerational support on medical expenses. Results shows that there are differences in the impact of intergenerational support on the medical expenses of empty nesters under different levels of medical expenses. The positive impact of upward economic support increases with the increase of medical expenses; The negative impact of downward care support increases with the increase of medical expenses; The positive impact of intergenerational emotional support is greater at the median level of medical expenses. It is suggested to pay more attention to the basic role of family pension, enhance children's attention to the health of empty nesters, and effectively improve the utilization rate of medical services for empty nesters.
