Abstract:Genetic counseling is characterized by professionalism, precision, ethics and the law. The legal risks of genetic counseling include unqualified genetic counselors, disclosure of personal genetic information, dangers of biosafety, genetic discrimination, infringements of patients’ rights to informed consent and family members’ rights to lives and health. The suggestions to improve genetic counseling in China include improving the qualification certification of genetic counselors, the provisions on the protection of personal genetic information, the provisions on avoiding biosafety risks, the provisions against gene discrimination, the provisions to protect right to informed consent and right to life and health.
