Abstract:In order to explore the impact of Internet use on the utilization of health services for elderly patients with chronic diseases in China, based on the data of China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study in 2018 and 2020, this study used a fixed effect model to analyze the impact of Internet use on medical treatment behavior, and conducted heterogeneity test through group regression. The results showed that Internet use significantly reduced the offline visit rate of elderly patients with chronic diseases, while the use of mobile payment had no significant effect. The significant impact of Internet use on health service utilization exists in the sub-groups of married and medically insured ; self-rated health status and depression scores have a significant impact on health service utilization. Internet use may reduce the offline health service demand of elderly patients with chronic diseases by broadening the access to health information. It is necessary to strengthen the transformation of digital health services for the elderly, strengthen community health support for non-Internet users, and formulate accurate intervention strategies based on the characteristics of marital status to optimize digital health services.
