Objective: To know about medical waste management in primary health care units of Jiangsu province in order to provide evidence for government policy. Methods: Three regions of Sunan,Suzhong and Subei were randomly selected to be investigated. Twenty－two primary health care units were investigated according to present relevant laws and regulations about management of medical waste in our country. Results: Many defects of medical waste management were found in primary health care units. Disposal of sharp medical instruments, construction of temporary storage room, frequency of gathering medical waste, and concentrate disposal needed to be further optimized. Conclusion: Government should consider real situations of primary health care when specific policies are formulated. Practical policies and measures should be carried out and medical waste should be managed reductively, harmlessly and resourcefully.
