To investigate the quality of life and its influencing factors on elderly people in the northern rural areas of Jiangsu, and provide reference for policy-making and implementing. Methods: A survey with EQ-5D and self-made questionnaire was used to investigate 1889 elderly person in four cities from northern rural of Jiangsu. Then, we analyzed the factors which affect the quality of life among the elderly in rural area. Results: The average score of EQ-VAS was 71.3±16.7. Compared with pain/discomfort and usual activities, elderly people had fewer problems in mobility, self-care and anxiety/depression. The rates of satisfaction were 75.2%, 83.3%, 78.2%, 56.2% and 72.9% respectively in five dimensions. The quality of life among elderly person was influenced by age, economic income, marital status, chronic disease and living way. Conclusion: Empty-nesters with low-income in the northern rural areas of Jiangsu need more cares. The government should strengthen health management of chronic diseases, improve social welfare system in rural and provide a healthy and harmonious atmosphere for the aged.
