Abstract:Objective: To investigate the utilization of family doctor services in hypertensive patients. Methods: Self ? made questionnaires were distributed to 264 hypertensive patients from 6 communities administrated by a community healthcare center of Xuanwu District in Nanjing. The cognition and utilization to family doctor services, self?management behavior and the effectiveness of blood pressure control were investigated by the questionnaire. Results: A total of 186 patients had family doctors (the observation group), and 78 patients without family doctors (the control group). 55.3% of patients were insufficiently aware of family doctor services. The awareness and the utilization rates of family doctor services in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). Green channel of referral and family medical service were exclusive for patients with family doctors, but the utilization rates were both very low. The utilization rates of family doctor services in people with different education background or age were different (P<0.05). The compliance on self?management behavior and the effectiveness of blood pressure control in the observation group were better than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: In order to meet the increasing medical need of residents, it is necessary to make better publicity, cultivate more qualified general practitioners, establish efficient assessing and incentive mechanism, improve supporting policy and measures and create doctor?patient relationship based on friendship.
