Abstract:Qualitative and quantitative methods were combined to conduct a questionnaire survey on 287 members of the family doctor team in Pukou District within?depth interviews with 31 key informants. This aims of this study is to understand the basic composition, service ability and income of family doctors in Pukou District of Nanjing, as well as the cognition of family doctors’ contracting services, and to formulate grassroots health manpower planning for government departments and comprehensively promote family doctors’ contracting services. Various community health service centers in Pukou District have actively established family doctors’teams, but there are still problems remain such as disqualified family doctors, sub-optimised professional ratio of team structure, and poor income for these medical professions. Most of the family doctors understand the contents of family doctors’ contract services, and they support team contract method, however, their limited professional training background and technical level, in addition to increased service workload are the main difficulties encountered by family doctors in fulfilling contract service. Improvements for family doctor service, professional configuration, team member income, and establishment of team member cooperation mechanism can improve the construction of family doctor team, and also, enhance family doctors’ confidence and promote family doctor contract service in whole.
