To investigate the mental health status of medical workers in the third grade comprehensive hospitals in Fujian, so as to provide reference for intervention study. The General Health Questionnaire（GHQ） was conducted to survey 946 staff in 26 comprehensive hospitals in the third grade in Fujian Province. The mental health status of female medical staff was significantly worse than that of male medical staff（χ2=7.301，P=0.007）； The mental health status of nurses was worse than those of clinical doctors, medical technicians and pharmaceutical staff（χ2=14.046，P=0.003）； Young medical workers and those with shorter working years had significantly more psychological problems than older medical workers and those with longer working years（χ2=11.604，P=0.003；χ2=10.057，P=0.007）； The psychological problems of medical workers with low professional titles were significantly worse than those with high professional titles（χ2=8.446，P=0.015）； The health status of medical workers with only one minor child was better than that of medical workers without or with two minor children（χ2=9.369，P=0.009）； The significant factors to predict the good mental health of medical workers were academic qualifications, exercise frequency, sense of social contribution and sense of social belonging. Advanced training and more exercises should be encouraged, the sense of contribution and belonging should be cultivated, and more attention should be paid on female staff, young staff and nurses.
