Abstract:Objective: To compare effects of planter turbine drill and traditional chisel technique on removal of impacted mandibular third molars. Methords:Three hundred and thirey cases with impacted third molars of middle or low site were randomly assigned to two groups:test group including 160 cases received treatment of planter turbine drill; control group including 170 cases received treatment of traditional chisel technique. The duration of extraction and discomfort of the patients, and post-operational complications were determined and analyzed. Results:The test group had shorter duration of extraction, less discomfort, and less post-operational complications such as ache, swelling, limited opening of mouth, than those of the control group. Occurrences of dry socket and fracture of lingual alveolar bone were lower than the control(P < 0.01). Conclusion:The planter turbine drill has a superiority for application on extraction of impacted third molars compared with traditional chisel technique.
