Basic surgery is a bridge curriculum from foundational medicine to clinical medicine. The experimental teaching of it includes basic skill and synthetic surgery. The authors combined PBL and LBL teaching method and made a preliminary analysis of the teaching effects through objective-structured clinical examination in seven-years undergraduate Grade 2007. There were significant differences between combining PBL and LBL teaching method and traditional LBL teaching method, PBL teaching method in the aspects of test results, classroom atmospheres, teachers’ enthusiasm and students’ activity. The combination of PBL and LBL teaching method was proved to be effective for improving teaching quality.
