The principles，theories，and philosophies embodied in the Red
Medical Spirit

Abstract：The Red Medical Spirit（RMS） embodies profound principles， academic knowledge， and
philosophical significance，serving as a guiding spiritual banner for strengthening the professional ethics
construction of young medical students in the new journey of the new era. From a theoretical perspective，the
RMS scientifically addresses fundamental questions of“What is the RMS?”，“Why is the RMS needed?”and
“How to promote the RMS?” through four dimensions， including political belief， humanistic sentiment，

excellent conduct and professional competence. From an academic perspective，the RMS combines the soul of
Marxism and the root of traditional Chinese culture with the practice of China’s revolution，construction and
reform. It reflects the application and development of Marxist theory，an inheritance and innovation of China’s
outstanding traditional culture，and an inheritance and elevation of the experience of the Communist Party of
China in leading people in national public health development for over a century. From a philosophical
perspective， the RMS reflects the dialectical unity of universality and particularity， the epistemological
implications of the positive interaction between practice and cognition，and the historical materialist conception
of masses as the creators of history. It highlights the strong theoretical characteristics of dialectical materialism
and historical materialism，providing a scientific worldview and methodology for advancing the modernization of
the socialist healthcare system with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
