Abstract:The evolution of medicine in China has been a lengthy journey, progressing from the gradual
incorporation of Western medicine to the establishment of a modern healthcare system. Throughout these stages,
research on medical language has varied in its distinct focus and characteristics. While in the early stages,

research primarily focused on theoretical translation, the research in the new period has broadened to include
both medical language ontology and its theory, with a stronger emphasis on the clinical practice, which covers
a wide range of fields. However, current research on medical language encounters various challenges, such as
difficulties in interdisciplinary studies, researcher training, and obstacles related to the disciplinary structure
and curriculum models. In the context of the digital age, future research on medical language should focus on
key areas such as the construction of a standardized system of Chinese medical language terminology, the
development of medical linguistics disciplines, the advancement of intelligent technologies for medical
language, and the formulation of medical language policies and plannings considering the national development
               strategies and language policies.
