Analysis of coupling coordination degree and obstacle factors between

elderly care resource allocation and regional economy in western

region from 2014 to 2022

Abstract：Achieving the coordinated development of elderly care resource allocation and regional economy
is an important issue to promote Chinese⁃style modernization. Based on the data of the western region from 2014 to
2022，this study constructs an evaluation index system to empirically analyze the spatial⁃temporal characteristics
and obstacles of the coordinated development of elderly care resource allocation and regional economy by using
the coupled coordination degree model and the obstacle degree model. The study shows that from 2014 to 2022，
the level of economic development had always outperformed the level of elderly care resource allocation. The
mean values of the coupling coordination degree between the two systems ranged from 0.543 to 0.708，showing
a slow upward trend，and presenting a spatial gradient pattern of“high in the southwest and low in the
northwest”and core⁃periphery differentiation characteristic. The obstacle factor analysis reveals that the shortage
of elderly care service resources and limited economic scale are the key barriers to the coordinated development
of the two systems. Therefore，according to the results of the study，corresponding policy recommendations are
put forward to provide references for promoting high⁃quality coordinated development of elderly care resource
allocation and the regional economy in the western region.
