Analysis of the current situation of management and treatment of

severe mental disorders in Nantong between 2021 and 2024

Abstract：To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of patients with severe mental disorders in
Nantong and to provide basic data for further prevention and control strategies，this study conducted descriptive
statistical analysis by selecting data related to the Nantong severe mental disorder management system from
2021 to 2024. As of 2024，a total of 39 404 patients with severe mental disorders had been registered in
Nantong，with a reported prevalence rate of 5.09‰. The majority of patients were female（56.25%），mainly
diagnosed with schizophrenia（65.81%），with most aged 45 years old and above（73.83%）. There were
significant differences in the reported prevalence rate and management rate，standardized management rate，
medication rate，regular medication rate，visiting rates，health examination rate，with an overall increasing
trend from 2021 to 2024. The reported prevalence and distribution of patients with severe mental disorders vary
in different districts and counties of Nantong，In addition，Nantong City should focus more on older patients，

individuals with schizophrenia，and family caregiver population among patients with severe mental disorders.
